“About 3,000 Torontonians died in the First World War; Global News has linked 2,910 casualties to city addresses. One hundred years ago, Bertram Denison was the first.”
Ever since the Spring, The Star has taken great pains to bring home to its readers fascinating stories, facts and figures about the lives lived in the trenches. This section, “Walking the Western Front“, was created in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War One, and features the work of two Star reporters who actually travelled overseas to trace the steps of our Canadian soldiers. The Star also has an entire encyclopedia on the subject of the First World War. To read an amazingly-detailed account of the life of Toronto’s first casualty, please click here.
